The Rivertones run a FREE 8-week LEARN TO SING COURSE
The Rivertones Chorus are currently running a FREE 8-week Learn To Sing course for men at the Oakwood
Church Centre in Taunton.
Around 40 men have registered and joined the course. This is a nationally recognised singing course which was
originated by The Rivertones and is now used by choruses and choirs all over the country. It is designed to
appeal to anyone who has an interest in singing which has many benefits including health and wellbeing.
Some of the attendees have no experience of singing and others are returning to singing after long breaks.
There is no need to be able to read music and newcomers are being encouraged to have a go at the various singing parts which make up the wonderful harmony sound. There is a choice between lead (the melody line), bass, baritone or tenor.
The course is well-structured and all newcomers are given a weekly breakdown of what they will be doing.
Each session begins with a simple physical warm up followed by a vocal warm up before the main part of each evening begins.
Each delegate will work in his chosen voice section first before everyone comes together in the main chorus.
During the eight weeks, the course will include:
How to identify your singing tools
Posture and breathing
Vocal freedom
Support
Resonance
Vowels and articulation
Songs planned for the course include To Make You Feel My Love (Adele, Garth Brooks, Billy Joel and Bob Dylan are amongst those who have recorded this song), Yesterday and Cabaret.
Week seven of the course will include some specialist coaching by the Musical Director of The Great Western Chorus in Bristol, Linda Corcoran. Linda’s chorus have been national champions.
The final week – week eight – will be ‘Showtime’ when friends and relations are invited to witness the result of the course, an evening to be very proud of for all those involved. A chance to show off their singing skills.
